Lee

Lee Roy Selmon's tale combines the football scholarship of his family as well as service to the community. In the first place the Selmons were born by Lucious Semon and his wife Jessie on an agricultural property near Eufala within Oklahoma as the eldest of the nine children they had. Another reason for his football career was that his father was the only of three brothers who played with Oklahoma. Three of them were All-Americans. The year 1973 was the first time Lee Roy and Lucious Jr. Dewey were the first-teamers for the entire year. Lee Roy has won both the Outland Award and the Lombardi Award as the top lineman in America. During his three years as the Oklahoma's quarterback of choice The Sooners recorded a 32-1-1 record and won two national titles. In 1975, the National Football Foundation named him a Scholar-Athlete for the third time in the year 1975. Selmon was awarded a degree from Education. Lee Roy's fourth service was ten-hours per week of volunteer time in college. Following college, he relocated into Tampa and played for nine years for the Buccaneers. He was an All-Pro for three occasions. He then began his professional career. He was hired in 1988 as an Account Relations officer for Tampa's First Florida Bank. He also worked with the following groups: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. No wonder that in 1982, the Junior Chamber of Commerce named him one of the nation's 10 outstanding young males. Lee Roy, a 6-2-inch larger and weighing the hefty 256 pounds at college when he was a player, captained his team during the season of 1975. In 1993, Roy was a part of the University of South Florida's athletic department as associate director. He was named to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988. He was also named to the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994 and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. In 1989, the Oklahoma City Chapter of the National Football Foundation in 1989 awarded the Distinguished American Award to his parents Mr. and Mrs.. Lucious Selmon Sr. Henry Bellmon was the Oklahoma Governor that presented the award.
